Spay & Neuter

Perhaps one of the best “gifts” you can give to your cat, and to the rest of the feline population, is spaying or neutering. Our world is heavily populated with cats. Because of the overpopulation of cats, many are without homes. This leads to the spread of feline diseases as well as preventable feline deaths.

Aside from preventing the overpopulation of cats, spaying or neutering can also address or prevent certain medical or behavioral problems that your cat faces or may face. Spaying and neutering both reduce sexual behaviors or urges in cats. One of the most notable behavioral changes is in male cats. Prior to neutering, most male cats are extremely territorial and “claim” their territory by spraying urine, fighting with other cats, and roaming continuously. Further, spaying a female cat ceases the howling associated with a cat being in heat.

Cats can be spayed or neutered as long as they are eight weeks old however we recommend waiting until your kitten is four months old. Spaying involves removing the ovaries and uterus of a female cat. Neutering involves the removal of a male cat’s testicles. Both procedures are conducted while a cat is under anesthesia. We pride ourselves on providing excellent pain medication post surgery allowing your kitten to heal comfortably. Usually within a few days your kitten will be back to his/her self.
